Obituary

Jacob C.Schmidt of 312 Graham St.,Belle Vernon,died Friday,March 4,1977,at 6:30 p.m.in the West Penn Hospital,Pittsburgh.,after an illness of six months. He was 66. Born in West Brownsville on Feb.17,1911,he was a son of the late Jacob and Alice Gough Schmidt,and had lived in the Belle Vernon area the past 64 years. Mr.Schmidt was a member of the First Presbyterian Chruch of Belle Vernon where he was chairman of the Board of Ushers. He was a life member of the North Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Department and belonged to the Charleroi Sportsmen's Club. He retired in 1975 from the Allenport Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp where he worked as an operator in the No.3 Hot Mill. Surviving are his widow,Vera Hoffman Schmidt,one son,Ronald J.Schmidt of Newfane,N.Y.,one daughter,Mrs.Charles (Sharlene) Wolford of Springfield,Ill.,and seven grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Shelby D.Ferguson Funeral Home,Belle Vernon,from 7 to 9 p.m.Saturday,March 5,and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.Sunday,March 6. Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday,March 7,at 1 p.m.with Dr.S.Arthur Talman of the First Presbyterian Church,Belle Vernon,officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Shelby D.Ferguson is the funeral director in charge.
