Jacob C.Schmidt of 312 Graham St.;Belle Vernon;died Friday;March 4;1977;at 6:30 p.m.in the West Penn Hospital;Pittsburgh.;after an illness of six months. He was 66. Born in West Brownsville on Feb.17;1911;he was a son of the late Jacob and Alice Gough Schmidt;and had lived in the Belle Vernon area the past 64 years. Mr.Schmidt was a member of the First Presbyterian Chruch of Belle Vernon where he was chairman of the Board of Ushers. He was a life member of the North Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Department and belonged to the Charleroi Sportsmen’s Club. He retired in 1975 from the Allenport Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp where he worked as an operator in the No.3 Hot Mill. Surviving are his widow;Vera Hoffman Schmidt;one son;Ronald J.Schmidt of Newfane;N.Y.;one daughter;Mrs.Charles (Sharlene) Wolford of Springfield;Ill.;and seven grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Shelby D.Ferguson Funeral Home;Belle Vernon;from 7 to 9 p.m.Saturday;March 5;and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.Sunday;March 6. Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday;March 7;at 1 p.m.with Dr.S.Arthur Talman of the First Presbyterian Church;Belle Vernon;officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
