Obituary

Jack T. Beck Jr., 84, of Rostraver Township, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, in Mon Valley Hospital Inc., Carroll Township. He was born in Monessen on June 15, 1919, a son of the late Jack Sr. and Rose Beck. He was a graduate of Monessen High School and the Massanutten Military Academy of Woodstock, Va. Mr. Beck was a member of First Christian Church in Monessen. He was a former postmaster in Monessen and served as a health officer for the state of Pennsylvania. He worked for AAA for over 50 years and served as Executive Director and Chairman of the Board for the Westmoreland Motor Club for 28 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Beck was a member and past commander of American Legion Post 28 and was appointed to and served as a member of the National Foreign Relations Commission of the American Legion. He was a former Trustee for California University of Pennsylvania for eight years. Mr. Beck was as a member of the Board of Directors of the Monessen Chamber of Commerce, the B.P.O.E. and Croatian Club, both of Monessen, and served on the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn L. Dauvin Beck, three sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy and Brenda Beck of Perryopolis, Gary and Joan Beck of Rostraver Township, and Robert and Susan Beck of West Newton, three brothers, John Beck of Monessen, Emil Beck of Uniontown, and Steven Sonny Beck of Monessen, two sisters, Helen Zoretich of Harrisburg, and Wilma Thomas of Belle Vernon, eight grandchildren, Ryan, Jason and Kristen Beck, Nancy Jo Beck and Gary N. Beck Jr., and Alex, Anthony and Samuel Drizos. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jacqueline, four brothers, Nick, Robert, Chuck and Matt Beck. Friends will be received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the JAMES C. STUMP FUNERAL HOME INC., 580 Circle Drive, Sweeney Plan/Rostraver Township, where funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 9. at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Conrad Auel officiating. Interment, with full Military Honors, will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery, Rostraver Township. American Legion Post 28 will conduct services in the funeral home Wednesday at 2 p.m.
