Obituary

Jack D. Hackenson, 79, of Scott Street, Speers Hill, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at 6:40 p.m. at his residence. Born Oct. 6, 1922, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Harry and Elvina Whiteman Hackenson. Mr. Hackenson was a resident of Speers Hill for the past 12 years and was retired from Pittsburgh Gage, where he worked in industrial sales. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. He is survived by his wife, Doris Britton Hackenson, to whom he was married 61 years, a son and daughter-in-law, Jack E. and Maria Hackenson of Wake Forest, N.C., a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Richard Venis of Alpharetta, Ga., four grandchildren, Troy and Todd Venis, Sheri Woods and Kelli Greer, and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Hackenson was the last surviving member of his family and was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Hackenson Stewart, who died in December 1991, three brothers, Harry, Leo and Elmer Hackenson, and five sisters, Sylvia, Bertha and Violet Hackenson, Mary Momyer and Thelma Schmidt. Services will be held Monday in the LEONARD J. PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME, family owned and operated, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Timothy C. McConville, pastor of United Methodist Church, Belle Vernon, officiating. Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
