Ida Krandle, a recipient of the Heart of Gold Award for the Metro Detroit area for her volunteerism, passed away on December 27, 206 at the Regency Nursing Center in Taylor. She was the beloved mother of Kathleen “Kathy” Yaquinto of Florida and grandmother of Matthew (Megan) Oliveri of Danville, California. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Danielle, Julia and Joey Oliveri. Ida had 10 brothers and 1 sister. Her surviving brothers are Joe, Tom, Rudy, Paul and Ted Oliver. Her sister is Joan Oliver Hrutkay. Her brothers, Cozy, Guy, Mark and Nick preceded her in death. Ida had many nieces and nephews and hundreds of cousins, all of whom she loved dearly. Ida was an accomplished hostess and cook and had wonderful dinner parties, even printing out the menu for her guests. She was a great baker and her cookies and candies were the best. She loved to give them away and they were always greatly anticipated at every holiday.
As a volunteer for over 30 years, Ida won an award for her work with the Salvation Army, Detroit Symphony, Lawyers Wives, Project Hope and other organizations. A banquet was held in her honor at Cobo Hall for her volunteer work. Ida was very socially active and quite often served as officers for the organizations she donated her time to. She was also a world traveler, having visited Europe over 25 times, several visits to Brazil as well as Canada and much of the United States. She also went on several cruises. She will be forever missed. He last years were unfortunately taken from her by a terrible brain disease, dementia. But even at the end of her life, the aids and nurses at the nursing home said she was one of their favorite residents, always smiling and easy to get along with. She had a truly beautiful smile and style and was a unique individual. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30am on June 1, 2017 at the John N. Santeiu & Son Funeral Home, 1139 N.
