Howard K. Odbert,37,of 44 Reed avenue,Monessen,died in his sleep from a heart attack Saturday morning, March 31,1956, at 9 o'clock in his home. He was found by his father,Francis Odbert. Born in Belle Vernon,he came to Monessen when he was one month old and had lived her ever since. Well known, he attended Monessen elementary schools and graduated from Monessen High School. He also graduated from Pittsburgh School of Mortuary Science and attended Carnegie Tech. He wasa a popular singer throughtout Monongahela Valley,being guest soloist at many church and civi affairs. While in high school,he won a district singing contest and sang over a Pittsburgh radio station. Just last week he was elected a lecturing knight at the Monessen Elks Lodge,773,where he had been a member for many years. At one time,he was part owner of the Monessen Yell-O cab and had been associated with the Harper Funeral Home here. He was a veteran of World War II,having served with the Eighth Air Force in the European Theatre. He was a member of Thomas McKee Post 28,American Legion and Allison Lescaac Post 1190,Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of the First Methodist Church. Surviving ae his parents,Francis and Marie Steen Odbert. Friends will be received at the Harper Funeral Home,649 McKee avenue, Monessen,after 7 p.m. on Sunday. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. in charge of Dr. Leroy Cass,First Methodist Church pastor,and Rev. Allan Howes,pastor of Asbury Methodist Church,Uniontown. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. H.G.Hharper,funeral director in charge.
