Death of another pioneer was recorded Monday,February 22,1932 with the passing of Hiram H. Myers, 81 year old life long resident of the Monongahela valley, at his home, 333 Isabelle avenue, North Charleroi, Monday morning at 8:15 o'clock. His death was attributed to infirmities of old age and a stroke which he suffered several days ago. Mr. Myers was born September 11,1848 at Jacksonville, Carroll township, Washington county, which is the present site of Donora. His father, the late Herman H. Myers, came to America from Amsterdam, Holland, in 1829. and first settled in Philadelphia. He moved to the valley in 1847. Hiram Myers married in 1873 and celebrated his fiftieth wedding anniversary eight years ago. He moved to Monessen on Thanksgiving Day of 1881 and later sold his land in Monessen to the Pittsburgh Steel company,which now has a plant located there. Monessen at that time was known as "Fordham." He entered the employ of the Mononghagela Navigation company in 1883. This company was later taken over by the government and he continued in the service of the government until 1920,when he retired with pension. With the government he was engaged in the construction of river locks from No.14 on the Monongahela to No.4 on the Ohio. He moved to his late home in North Charleroi in 1895. He is survived by his widow,Elizabeth Myers;one son,John H.Myers of North Charleroi and two daughters,Mrs.Anna Crosbie of Belle Vernon and Mrs.Emma J.Kreger of Monessen. Funeral services will be held from the St.Jerome's Catholic Church at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning. Interment will be in the Belle Vernon Cemetery.
