Herbert U.Smith of 25 Foxwood Drive;Elizabeth;died unexpectedly Monday morning;Oct.13;1980;at Jefferson Health Center;Jefferson Borough. He was 74. Mr.Smith was born in Monongahela on Jan.8;1906. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his widow;Elizabeth Mears Scott Smith;three stepdaughters;Mrs.Wayne (Donna) Dias from the state of California;Mrs.Darlene Patterson of Lynnwood and Mrs.Randall (Bobbie Ann) Mills of Mansfield;Pa.;one sister;Mrs.Charles (Edna) Wyett of Huntingdon;Pa.;one niece;Mrs.Frank (Pat) Berdini of Baltimore;Md.;one nephew;Bob Wyett of Belle Vernon; four stepgrandchildren and one stepgreatgrandchild. Mr.Smith was a Protestant by faith. He had resided in the Elizabeth area the past three years. He was a member of the Forward Twp.Senior Citizens Association and had retired as an independent store owner having owned and operated a Western Auto store in Baltimore;Md.;for many years. Friends are being received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.in the Leonard J.Parzynski Funeral Home;626 Broad Ave.;Belle Vernon. Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m.at the funeral home;with the Rev.Kenneth Neiderhiser;pastor of the Belle Vernon Church of the Nazarene;officiating. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
