Obituary

Henry S.Schmidt,91,of 109 Allen Ave.,Belle Vernon (Rostraver Township),died Wednesday,May 5,1993,at 9:56 p.m.in Mon Valley Hospital Inc.,Carroll Township. Born Dec.17,1901,in North Belle Vernon,he was the son of the late John H.and Anna Michael Schmidt. A lifelong resident of Belle Vernon,Mr.Schmidt was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He served on Belle Vernon Council and as mayor in 1939 and the 1940s. He retired in March 1967 from a supervisory position with Monessen Southwestern Railroad Company of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel,Monessen. He had worked 51 years at various positions with the steel company. In addition to his parents,he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years,Thelma Hackenson Schmidt,on Feb.23,1993,a brother,Norman,in 1925,and two sisters,Margaret in 1908 and Alice M.Easton in 1975. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law,Henry A.and Doris Schmidt of Levittown,three grandsons,John,Allen and Richard Schmidt,three great-grandchildren,one brother,John P.Schmidt of Speers,and one sister,Kathryn Anderson of Jackson,Miss. Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.in the Leonard J.Parzynski Funeral Home,626 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon,where services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m.with the Rev.James D.Burton,pastor of First Presbyterian Church,Belle Vernon,officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the Leonard J.Parzynski Funeral Home.
