Obituary

Henry E. Vandernitte, 89, of Belle Vernon, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2010, in Monongahela Valley Hospital. A son of the late Joseph and Nancy Huffman Vandernitte, he was born in Phillipsburg on Aug. 15, 1921. He was a member of the Christian Church of California, retired in 1982 from the Allenport Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Company, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Survivors include his wife, Lorraine Andercheck Kissell Vandernitte, one son, Keith Vandernitte, of Spartanburg, SC, five stepchildren, Sandy and Larry Solomon, of Elizabeth, Cheryl and Jack Knight, of Canonsburg, John Paul and Marie Kissell, of Monessen, Tim and Barbara Kissell, of Mucungie Borough, and Melanie Kissell, of Arcadia, Calif., 40 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, one sister, Rita Lutz, of California, and three sisters-in-law, Sonya Andercheck, Dorothy Janosik, and Grace Vandernitte. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Louise Houston Vandernitte, and Mary O'Brien Pupelli Vandernitte, one daughter, Gail Barone, and one brother, Joe Vandernitte. Friends will be received Saturday, July 31, from 11 a.m. until noon, the time of services, in the Ferguson Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon. www.fergusonfuneralhomeandcrematory.com. Funeral services will be in the funeral home Saturday at noon with the Rev. Norman Hunt officiating. Private entombment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
