Helen Springer Russell, 77, a former Belle Vernon and Monessen elementary school teacher, died Thursday,January 18,1979, at 6 a.m. in the Holyoke Hospital, Holyoke, Mass. Mrs. Russell resided in Holyoke, Mass. She was born Aug 20,1901 in Belle Vernon, a daughter of the late Robert D. and Cora Reeves Springer. In 1929 she left the Mon Valley when she accepted a position as principal of the Lovering School, a private school in Holyoke, Mass. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth C. Russell, who died in I960, and by a brother, Joseph Springer, who died in 1940. Survivors include a son, Clifford S. Russell of Washington, D. C , three sisters, Clara S. Jones of Belle Vernon,Sara S. Jeffries of State College and Grace Springer of Holuoke,Mass.and Belle Vernon,and several nieces and nephews. Friennds will be received in Holyoke on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 10 p.m. Memorial services and interment will take place in Belle Vernon,but arrangements are incomplete because of the severe winter weather conditions in New England.
