Helen Markovitch; 91; of Charleroi; passed away peacefully on Thursday; Jan. 5; 2012; in Nevaeh Cove Personal Care Home. A daughter of the late Pete and Mary Ostoffie Leavor; she was born March 4; 1920; in Vestaburg. Mrs. Markovitch was a member of Mary; Mother of the Church; the Confraternity of Christian Mothers; the Bereavement Committee and the Catholic Daughters of America. She was a former employee of G.C. Murphy in Charleroi and also worked in the tube mill at the McKeesport plant of U.S. Steel. She was the treasurer for the Charleroi Area Senior Center and also volunteered with Meals on Wheels. Mrs. Markovitch is survived by two sons; Joseph Markovitch Jr. and wife; Charlotte; of Clearfield; and Edward Markovitch and wife; Marge; of Avenel; N.J.; a daughter; Grace Shrum and husband; Ronald; of Rahway; N.J.; seven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and a sister; Julia Carcella; of Charleroi. She was preceded in death by her husband; Joseph Markovitch Sr.; on May 22; 1976; grandsons; Gerald Markovitch and Ronald Shrum; brothers; John; Steve; Mike and Frank Leavor; and sisters; Anna Hutoff and Dorothy Ellin. Family and friends will be received on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the MELENYZER-DuBARR FUNERAL HOMES AND CREMATION SERVICES INC.; 825 Fallowfield Ave.; Charleroi; where prayers will be recited on Saturday; Jan. 7; 2012; at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Mary; Mother of the Church; Charleroi; with the Rev.
