Helen M. Ramirez,89,of 11 Knox Ave.,Monessen died Wednesday,Jan. 31,1990,in Monongahela Valley Hospital, Carroll Township,following a lingering illness. Born Dec. 12,1900,in Charleroi,she was the daughter of the late Paul and Louisa Jane Simpson. Mrs. Ramirez was a former member of St. James A.M.E. Church, Belle Vernon,before moving to Monessen and becoming a member of Wayman A.M.E. Church. She was a lifetime member of Elite Temple No. 428,Monessen,where she had served as a senior mother for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,Jesus Ramirez;four brothers, Edmund,Roy,Charles and Kenneth Simpson and two sisters, Nina Stokes and Della Simpson. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law,Irene and Samuel Thorpe of Monessen,with whom she made her home; two grandchildren,Helen Jane Davis and Samuel E. Thorpe Jr.,both of Monessen;two great-grandchildren;three great-great-grandchildren;one sister, Lillian McMillen of New Kensington;one nephew and several nieces and cousins. Friends will be received Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Beverly C. Draper Funeral Home, 608 Sixth St.,Monessen. Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Wayman A.M.E. Church, Monessen, with Rev. Robert Taylor,pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the Beverly C. Draper Funeral Home.
