Obituary

Helen Dohanich Luzanski, 91, of Belle Vernon, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at 12:10 a.m. in the Victoria House, Monessen. Born May 4, 1919, in Keister, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Balluch Dohanich. Mrs. Luzanski lived in Navaho Hollow in Fayette City until she married her husband on July 26, 1942, and then moved to Belle Vernon. Mrs. Luzanski was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Monessen, and was a homemaker. She was an avid bowler and bowled ten pins with the Skrikettes at Red's bowling alley in Belle Vernon and later Lynnwood Lanes. She was also a member and at one time president of the Vernon Belles. She worked for several years at Valdiserri's Bakery in Monessen and at Abbott's News Store in North Belle Vernon. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph M. and Carol Luzanski, of West Newton, Robert J. and Diane Luzanski, of Belle Vernon, sister, Tina Rihtarcik, of Fayette City, two grandsons, Brian Luzanski and Michael Luzanski, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Michael Luzanski, on Sept. 8,1980, an infant son, John, four brothers, Mike, Andrew, John and George Dohanich, and three sister, Mary Selich, Anna Grofik and Julia Consonery. Visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 10, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the LEONARD J. PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME, Family Owned and Operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, (724) 929-6183. Panachida will be held Saturday, Dec. 11 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by Divine Liturgy at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Monessen, with the Rev. Stephen J. Wahal as celebrant. Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Parastas wil be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
