Hazel Charles;78;of Monessen;died Saturday;April 2;1994;in the Humbert Lane Health Care Center. She was born March 25;1916;in Bedford;a daughter of the late Amos W.and Margaret E.Smith Wigfield. She was a lifelong resident of Monessen. She was a very active and devoted member of the First Christian Church;Monessen. She was also a member of the C.W.F.of the church;where she served as historian for many years;and helped with the church’s newsletter for over 21 years. Survivors include on daughter and son-in-law;Hazel Kay and Randy Palmer;of Monessen;one sister;Sylvia Pressel of Bedford County;one brother;Edgar Wigfield of Everett;and two half-brothers;Allan Wigfield of Warfordsburg and Blair Wigfield of Cumberland;Md. In addition to her parents;she was preceded in death by her husband;Richard A.Charles;one brother;Marshall Smith;and three sisters;Zella Riley;Pearl Barnes;and Moneada Smith. Friends will be received Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Rhome Funeral Home Inc.;1209 Grand Blvd.;Monessen. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev.Conrad Auel officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Rhome Funeral Home Inc.is in charge of the arrangements.
