Obituary

Harry C Gribben, 78, former owner and operator of the Gribben Ladies Store in downtown Monessen and a civic and community leader in Monessen, died Friday,August 5,1977 at 1:35 am. in Wintersville, Ohio.   Mr Gribben, who operated the women's apparel store from 1935 to 1965, was residing in Wintersville. He was born Nov. 18, 1899, in Connellsville.   While in Monessen he was president of the Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs and was a member of the Downtown Fire Co.,the Chamber of Commerce and its Merchants Division, the board of the Salvalion Army and the First United Methodist Church.   Survivors include his widow , Helen Baker Gribben; two sons. James B. Gribben of Houston, Tex. and H. Robert Gribben of Alexandria, Va : six grandchildren, one brother, George Gribben of Wintersville, Ohio, one sister, Ola Mae Smith of Belle Vernon R D ; and several nieces and nephews in the Wintersville area. Friends will be received in the Ed Melenyzer Funeral Home in Monessen on Sunday from 11 am to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.  Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in the fuenral home,with the Revs. George Gribben Jr.,a nephew,and Howard E. Kennedy officiating.  Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery.  Ed Melenyzer is funeral director in charge.
