Harold Ernest Clark;prominent pioneer mid-Mon Valley architect;died Friday;Dec.19;1975;at 1 p.m.in the Negley House Nursing Home in Pittsburgh where he had been a patient since Nov.11 after spending one month in Montifore Hospital;also in Pittsburgh. A resident of 17 Ruth Place;Clair Manor;Belle Vernon R.D.2(Rostraver Twp.);Mr.Clark received his architectural degree at Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie-Mellon University) in Pittsburgh. During his career he specialized in the construction of churches. In the Valley he designed such edifices as St.Sebastian Catholic Church and the First Presbyterian Church;both of Belle Vernon;St;Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church;St.John’s Orthodox Church;Holy Name Catholic Church and its school and rectory;First Presbyterian Church;St.Spyridon Greek Catholic Church and its social hall;St.Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and St.Cajetan Catholic Church;all of Monessen;and the Methodist Church of Speers. A U.S.Army veteran of World War I;Mr.Clark served in the 305th Engineers Regiment;80th Division;overseas in France. He was a member and past commander of Thomas R.McKeee Post 28;American Legion;of Monessen. He was also a member of the Free & Accepted Order of Masons (F&AM) Lodge 643 of Belle Vernon;McKean Commandery and Knights Templar of Charleroi;Syria Shrine of Pittsburgh;and a member of the Monessen Rotary Club. Born in Oil City;he was a son of George and Mae Smock Clark and had resided in the Monessen-Belle Vernon area virtually all his life. Surviving are his widow;Mrs.Jean Deemer Clark;one son;Harold Ernest Clark Jr. and two granddaughters;Heather Jean and Sallye Ann Clark;all of Rockville;Md.;one brother;Fred R.Clark of Belle Vernon. Friends will be received after 7 p.m.Sunday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.Monday in the Shelby D.Ferguson Funeral Home;700 Broad Ave.;Belle Vernon;where services will be held Monday at 8 p.m.with the Rev.Dr.S.Talman of the First Presbyterian Church of Belle Vernon in charge. Private interment will follow Tuesday morning in Lawn Haven Burial Estates in Worthington;Pa. Shelby D.Ferguson is the funeral director in charge.
