Obituary

Gwen DiMascio, 84, of Greensburg, formerly of Monessen, died Friday, March 18, 2005, at her residence. She was born in Monessen, April 27, 1920, the daughter of the late Charles Carnes and the late Nettie Trew Carnes. Mrs. DiMascio was the granddaughter of philanthropist Margaret Manown Carnes and niece of benefactor Pearle M. Manown Kisor, who donated the grounds for the Monessen City Park and former Iowa School, which is now Eastgate Manor in Monessen. She and her husband owned, managed and worked at the classic landmark, Johnson's Restaurant in Monessen for more than 30 years. Mrs. DiMascio has been a resident of Greensburg since 1991. She will be sadly missed by her loving family, which includes her husband of 49 years, William DiMascio, two daughters and a son-in-law, Carna and Dr. Jordan Haller, of McMurray, and Anet Jones, of Clearwater, Fla., six grandchildren, Rene Davidson, Mark Callahan, David Shrager, Esq., Stacey Costanzo, Tracey Molinaro and Ron Yancec, 10 great-grandchildren, Jaci Sullivan, Nikki and Sherri Bohlander, Lauren Mackovich, Morgan Callahan, Giovanni Costanzo, Jeffrey and Jay Molinaro, Dristin and Dorian Yancec, and two great-great-grandchildren, Steve Jr. and Samantha Sullivan. Friends will be received Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the DALFONSO-BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 441 Reed Ave., Monessen, (724-684-8750). Additional visitation will be held Monday from noon until 1 p.m., the time of service, with the Rev. Michael Shepard, of the First Presbyterian Church in Fayette City, officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Parkinson's Chapter of Greater Pittsburgh, 6507 Wilkins Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15217, in memory of Gwen DiMascio. The DiMascio family would like to express appreciation to all the caregivers at the Parkinson's Foundation, Westmoreland Chapter, in Greensburg, for treating Mrs. DiMascio with dignity and kindness.
