Obituary

Guy Lang, 86, of Monessen, died Saturday, February 23, 2008, in Monongahela Valley Hospital Inc. He was born in Belle Vernon on July 1, 1921, the son of the late John and Anna Catherine Winn Lang. He was a resident of Monessen most all his life and a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church and the former St. Leonard Roman Catholic Church, American Legion Post 28, and the Eagles Aerie 2399. Mr. Lang was retired from the Monessen plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, having worked in the Open Hearth Electrical Department. Following his retirement, he worked at the former Star Lanes Bowling Alley in Monessen. He was an avid bowler and a member of several bowling leagues over the years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army in Company L of the 319th Infantry Regiment in Europe, receiving the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with a Bronze Star. He is survived by wife of 64 years, Carmella Corkie Lang, a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas D. and Patti Lang, of Belle Vernon, a daughter and son-in-law, Tanya and Lawrence Sobek, of Monessen, three grandchildren, Natalie R. Glaspey and husband, Christian, and Thomas A. Lang, all of Belle Vernon, and Yancy J. Sobek and wife, Melissa, of Monessen, four great- grandchildren, Christian, Carley and Conner Glaspey, and Isabella Sobek, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Rita and Bill Watson, of Monessen, and Donna and Frank Jan, of Columbus, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Melford, William and John Lang, two sisters, Evelyn Havrilak and Maryellen Wysochanski, and one granddaughter, Andrea P. Lang. Friends will be received Tuesday, February 26, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the DALFONSO-BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC. and CREMATION SERVICES, 441 Reed Ave., Monessen (724-684- 8750). Services will be held Wednesday, February 27, beginning with a 9:30 a.m. Blessing in the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord R.C. Church. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. American Legion Post 28 will conduct a service for their fallen comrade on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. in the funeral home.
