Obituary

Glenn Edward Butler Sr., 66, of Brooklyn, N.Y., formerly of Belle Vernon, departed this life on Monday, Nov. 19, 2012. Born in Charleroi on Sept. 29, 1946, he was the son of the late Benjamin E. Butler Jr. and Christella Walker-Butler. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Sandra Hewitt, and one son, Glenn E. Butler Jr. Glenn attended the Belle Vernon school system until the 8th grade. He joined the Navy on Nov. 21, 1963 and served until Sept. 29, 1967. During this time he obtained his GED and later enrolled at New York University pursuing a degree in psychology. He moved to New York in 1969 and worked as a medical records supervisor in Bellevue Hospital for many years and was a security guard for Fordham University. In the 1970's he gave his life to Jesus and dedicated his time to working in the prison ministry, men's choir, Billy Roberts House of Hope (for alcohol and addiction) and he was a faithful member of the men's Sunday school class. Glenn preached and sang in many different churches in the New York area. He was a lover of music and enjoyed lifting his voice to God in song. He was a man who received pleasure by helping others financially, socially, educationally, physically and emotionally. He leaves to cherish his memory, two brothers, Benjamin (Bernice) Butler Sr. of Braddock and Michael Butler of Belle Vernon, three sisters, Carla Snow of Pittsburgh, Rozalind Butler of Fayette City and Jacquelyn Butler of Belle Vernon, a special cousin, Harold Ware, a longtime friend, Velvor Rhone, and special friends, Ronald Bowers, Nair Vargas and Burnet Rembert, all of New York, his church family, the Soul Saving Station, and a host of other relatives and friends. Family and friends will be received from 10 a. m. to noon Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at Antioch Baptist Church, 945 Henry St., Belle Vernon, followed by a Homegoing service with the Rev. Clifford Carter officiating. Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to BEVERLY C.
