Gladys Bakewell;84;of 213 Grove Ave.;Belle Vernon;died Tuesday;May 1;1990;at 12:45 p.m.in Washington Hospital. Born May 11;1905;in Dunlevy;she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Elizabeth Abbott. Mrs.Brakewell had been a resident of Belle Vernon since 1942 and was a member of First Presbyterian Church;the Belle Vernon Golden Agers and the former Degree of Honor;where she served as treasurer. A graduate of California Normal School;she taught for many years in Centerville Borough Schools. In addition to her patents;she was preceded in death by her husband;Christopher;on Dec.10;1983;three sisters;Ethel Hoover;Beatrice Hall and Ada Bisencamp.and a great-granddaughter;Amy Mori. Surviving are two sons;Jack Bakewell of Belle Vernon and Bill Bakewell of Joppatowne;Md.;two daughters;Mrs.Gene (Marilois) Hopes of California;Pa.;and Mrs.Metro (Elaine) Backo of Belle Vernon;12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.in the Ferguson Funeral Home Inc.;700 Broad Ave.;Belle Vernon;where services will be held Friday at 11 a.m.;with Pastor Norman C.Hunt of United Christian Church;California;officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the Ferguson Funeral Home Inc.
