Dr. George W. Lewis, of Belle Vernon, aged 41 years, died Thursday morning,April 2,1936 at 2 o'clock in the McKeesport hospital, where it has been known for the past week that his condition was serious. He has been ailing for the past three years. Surviving are his wife, Alice Bakewell Lewis, a daughter, Ruth, aged thirteen years, and a son, Henry, aged eleven. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lewis of Rostraver township, also survive along with two sisters, Mrs. Barbara Zundel, of Belle Vernon, R. F. D., and Mrs. Gertrude Beatty, of Bluemont, Va. Dr. Lewis has been a practicing physician in Belle Vernon for the past twelve years. He was graduated from the Jefferson Medical College in 1917. He was a member of the Belle Vernon Lodge, F. ,& A. M., the Coudersport Consistory, was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Syria Temple of Pittsburgh. He is a past charter Member of the Belle Vernon Rotary club, having withdrawn on account of ill health. He served his country during the World war with the rank of captain, being a member of the medical corps located with the United States Marines in Cuba. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. The body has been taken to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lewis, in Rostraver township, near the La Grange school, wvhere the remains may be viewed. Funeral services are announced for Sunday afternoon, April 5 at 2:30 o'clock from the Rehobeth Church, with the Rev. Sydney Gaffney, officiating. Interment will follow in the Belle Vernon Cemetery.
