George L.Dodd;80;of Chambersburg;formerly of Belle Vernon;died suddenly in the Underwood Hospital;Swedenboro;New Jersey;Tuesday;June 15;1954;at 2 a.m. Mr.Dodd;who was a former Belle Vernon business man;was visiting with relatives;Mr.and Mrs.A.C.Dodd in Swedenboro when he became suddenly ill. The deceased was a merchant in Belle Vernon for years and was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church;Belle Vernon;to which he still belonged;and the Chamber of Commerce. While in Belle Vernon he also served on the Belle Vernon School Board and was a director of the Valley Deposit and Trust Co. He was a member of the Lodge of Perfection of Uniontown and Gumbert Lodge;Fayette City. He was a son of the late Dr.and Mrs.Samuel Dodd and is survived by one daughter;Virginia Dodd Cooper;of Chambersburg;with whom he made his home. Friends will be received at the Melenyzer-Ferguson Funeral Home;Belle Vernon;from Thursday evening at 7 p.m.;until Friday at 2 p.m.;at which time services will be conducted by Rev.George Kress of the Gibsonia Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon cemetery. Chas.L.Melenyzer and Shelby D.Ferguson are the funeral directors.
