George Kunsa, 94, of Monessen, passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2014, in Strabane Woods Assisted Living, Washington. He was born April 13, 1920, in Monessen, a son of the late Michael and Mary Resetar Kunsa. He was a member of St. John',s Lutheran Church of Charleroi.and the Monessen Elks No. 773. He worked as a Steelworker for Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Monessen Plant, in the Open Hearth and BOF, prior to his retirement. Mr. Kunsa was a veteran of World War II having served in the Coast Guard as a petty officer. His ship has escorted merchant ships crossing the Atlantic during war time. Mr. Kunsa was an avid golfer and had retired as the Elks Golf League Champion at the age of 85. He had also enjoyed harness racing. Surviving are his two sons, Richard and wife, Claire Kunsa, of Jefferson Hills and Daniel and wife, Karen, of Havertown, grandchildren, Jason and Tyler Kunsa, Jeffrey and wife, Holly Nelson and Ryan Nelson, Rodlyn Checcio and husband, Jeff, Shannon McCullough and husband, Craig, and Ashley Coffield and husband, Bradley, great-grandchildren, Addison, Alexander, Baylor, Dylan, and Toby, and a sister, Betty Trembach. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Kunsa, and a daughter, Janis Nelson. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the RHOME FUNERAL HOME INC., Family Owned and Operated as a Member of the Golden Rule, 1209 Grand Blvd., Monessen, where friends will be welcomed from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., the time of service, on Wednesday, May 21, 2014.
