George Kowasic Sr.,90,of Naomi,Fayette City,died Sunday,Feb. 6,2000,in Mon Valley Hospital. Born May 5,1909,he was the son of the late Matthew and Ella Stipkovich Kowasic. A retired coal miner,he wasa member of United Mine Workers of America Local 9873. Mr. Kowasic was a member of Holy Resurection Orthodox Church,Belle Vernon,and the Naomi AC Club. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years,Margaret Jupin Kowasic,on April 26,1997;his stepfather,Peter Sopsic Sr.;two brothers,Jjames and Thomas Kowasic;three stepbrothers,Joseph, William and Peter Jr. Sopsic;two sisters, Mary Jarsulic and Catherine Misher;and one stepsister,Frances Vernaccini. Survivors include a son, George Kowasic and his wife Elsie of Naomi,Fayette City;a son,Gerald Kowasic and his wife Priscilla of Locust Grove,Va.;a son,William C. Kowasic of Belle Vernon;and eight grandchildren,Matthew,Kyra,William, Melissa, Derek,Donn, Dana and Jay. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the ELEY-McCRORY FUNERAL HOME INC.,334 Main St.,Fayette City. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Parastas service will be held Wednesday at 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
