Obituary

George Kander, 70, of 381 Jones St., Belle Vernon, died Sunday, Feb. 11,1996, at 12:16 a.m. in Mon Valley Hospital. Born Feb. 5, 1926, in Stockdale, he was the son of the late John and Elizabeth Bender Kander Sr. Mr. Kander lived in Belle Vernon the past 40 years and was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was a member of Belle Verhon American Legion Post 659, the Belle Vernon Golden Agers, AARP, United Steel Workers of America, and the Retired Employees of the Allenport Plant. He was also a member of the former Stockdale Sokols. He retired in 1988 after 42 years of service as a machinist at the Allenport plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a signalman with the U.S. Navy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Emery Kander, in 1943, and John Kander Jr., in 1995, and one sister, Mary Kurtz. Surviving are his wife, Rose Quintier Kander, whom he married Aug. 5, 1950, one daughter, Linda Kander of Bedford, one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Ron and Amy Kander of Blacksburg, Va., and two sisters, Elizabeth Jeney and Mrs. David (Julia) Galuppo, both of Coal Center. Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Ferguson Funeral Home Inc.,700 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon,where services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m.with the Rev.Dr.Thomas St.Clair,pastor of First United Methodist Church,Belle Vernon,officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Arrangements ate being handled by the Ferguson Funeral Home Inc.
