Born Feb. 5; 1926; in Stockdale;
he was the son of the late
John and Elizabeth Bender
Kander Sr.
Mr. Kander lived in Belle
Vernon the past 40 years and
was a member of First United
Methodist Church.
He was a member of Belle
Verhon American Legion Post
659; the Belle Vernon Golden
Agers; AARP; United Steel
Workers of America; and the
Retired Employees of the Allenport
Plant.
He was also a member of the
former Stockdale Sokols.
He retired in 1988 after 42
years of service as a machinist
at the Allenport plant of
Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel
Corp.
He was a veteran of World
War II; serving as a signalman
with the U.S. Navy.
In addition to his parents; he
was preceded in death by two
brothers; Emery Kander; in
1943; and John Kander Jr.; in
1995; and one sister; Mary
Kurtz.
Surviving are his wife; Rose
Quintier Kander; whom he
married Aug. 5; 1950; one
daughter; Linda Kander of Bedford;
one son and daughter-in-law;
Dr. Ron and Amy Kander
of Blacksburg; Va.; and two sisters;
Elizabeth Jeney and Mrs.
David (Julia) Galuppo; both of
Coal Center. Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Ferguson Funeral Home Inc.;700 Broad Ave.;Belle Vernon;where services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m.with the Rev.Dr.Thomas St.Clair;pastor of First United Methodist Church;Belle Vernon;officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Arrangements ate being handled by the Ferguson Funeral Home Inc.
