George Davenport;Stockdale;died Wednesday;Oct.10;1984;at 3:50 a.m. in Jefferson Hospital. He was 71. Mr.Davenport was born in Pricedale on June 3;1913;a son of the late Andrew and Fannie Webb Davenport. He retired in 1971 from the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp.;Allenport plant;where he worked as a machinist. He was Protestant by faith and was a member of the Roscoe Moose Lodge 338 and a life member of both the Roscoe Slovak Club and the Allenport Rod and Gun Club. In addition to his parents;he was preceded in death by a brother;Clyde Davenport. Survivors include his friend and companion;Margaret Merryman;a daughter;Shirley Maksin of Elizabeth;three grandchildren;Sherry;Stacy and John Jr;two great-grandchildren;a brother;Elmer of Greenwood;Ind.;a sister;Kathryn Hanchin of Belle Vernon;and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Ed Melenyzer Funeral Homes;Inc.;1008 Furlong Ave.;Roscoe;where services will be held on Saturday;Oct.13;at 11 a.m. with the Rev.Seth P.Bower;pastor of the United Methodist Church of Roscoe;officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Ed Melenyzer Funeral Homes;Inc.is in charge of arrangements.
