Genevieve C. Merando; 76; of Monessen; died unexpectedly on Saturday; Feb. 21; 2004; in Temple University Hospital; Philadelphia. She was born Dec. 31; 1927; in Grindstone; a daughter of the late Fabio DeSimone and Lucia Zarak DeSimone. Mrs. Merando was a resident of Monessen since 1956 and a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church. She also was a member of the former St. Cajetan Rosary Altar Society and a past president of the mothers’ auxiliary for Boy Scouts of America Troop 1510. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law; Samuel F. and Jayne Merando of Monessen and Louis D. and Linda Merando of Charleroi; one brother; Franklin DeSimone of Duncansville; Texas; one sister and brother-in-law; Antoinette M. and Joseph Fava of Scenery Hill; four grandchildren; Samuel Joseph; David Michael; Jessica Lynn; and Erica Michelle; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband; Louis J. Jutsie Merando; in 1999; and one sister; Angela Leo. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the DALFONSO-BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC.; 441 Reed Ave.; Monessen. Services will be held Thursday; Feb. 26; beginning with a 9:30 a.m. blessing in the funeral home; followed by a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord R.C. Church. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
