Gene "Jeep" Knight,68,of 760 Dawson St.,California,died on Wednesday, July 30,1997,at 5:45 a.m. in Mon Valley Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born in Chewtown on Aug. 20,1928,a son of the late Charles and Nellie Rager Knight. Mr. Knight was educated in the Brownsville schools. He was a retired employee of California University of Pennsylvania and was a 25-year member of the California Borough Volunteer Fire Department. He moved from Denbo to California in 1946 and served in the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, Audrey Leonetti Knight; two sons and a daughter-in-law,Gene L. and Janet Knight and Ray Knight,all of California;a daughter, Jody Knight of California; two brothers, Thomas Knight of California and James Antal of Arizonia; a sister, Louise Peteritis of California and a granddaughter, Katie Knight. Friends will be received in the John E. Greenlief Funeral Home,323 Fourth St.,California,Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Norman Hunt officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The John E. Greenlief Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
