Death at 12:20 o'clock Friday morning,January 25,1935,removed one of Monessen's most estimable young men when Gattett E.Mountsier died at his home on Sixth street. He was aged 37 years. He had been in declining health for a number of years and made a gallant but losing battle for recovery. At an early age he united with the Presbyterian Church of Monessen and since that time has lived a consistent Christian life. After having been graduated from the Monessen High School,he was also graduated from the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago and later took special work at the Los Angeles Bible Institute. In spite of his failing health,he was constantly active. In attempting to recover his health,Mr.Mountsier went to Yampa,California;where he remained for three years, during which time he taught school and preached in the community in which he was located. Gaining no material benefits from his stay in California,he went to Albuquerque,Mexico, where he remained four years, after which he returned to Monessen ten years ago. Since that time he has gradually declined, but he never gave up and was active until a short time age. He had been in a serious condition until three hours before his death. The young man's mother died seven years ago last Tuesday and the young man forwarded a memorial for her to be published in the Independent. His death occurred on the anniversary of her funeral. His father,C.J.Mountsier,is the only survivor. A sister,Margaret, died on February 28,1919. Funeral services will be held from the late home,Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock,in charge of Rev.J.R.McFarland,pastor of the Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in the Belle Vernon Cemetery.
