Obituary

Fred Floyd Courie, 75, of Smithton, formerly of Belle Vernon, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. A son of the late Fredrick and Vivian Ritnour Courie, he was born in Indianhead on March 4, 1929. A resident of Smithton for 34 years, Mr. Courie was a member of the Fayette City American Legion. He was retired from the Fisher Body Plant and served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict, where he received a Purple Heart. Survivors include nine children and their spouses, Ginny Courie of Carmichaels, Butch and Connie Courie of West Newton, Harry and Karol Courie of Aurora, Ohio, Billy and Sherry Courie of Deerfield, Ohio, Vicki and Lou Barcelo of Fayette City, John Courie and Rhonda of West Newton, David and Alan Courie of Smithton, and Paul Courie and Debbie of Smock, one brother, Ralph Courie of Akron, Ohio, one sister, Thelma Jackman of Carmichaels, eight grandchildren, Harrison, Seth, Ashley, Billy Jr. and Calvin Courie, Shawna Conn, and Jessica and Brandon Barcelo, two great-grandchildren, Alexis and Brenden Conn, and his companion, Mary Ann Laatu of Belle Vernon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Nagy Courie, in October 1995. A memorial service will be Saturday, Oct. 2, in the chapel of Belle Vernon Cemetery. The FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC. and CREMATION SERVICE, a Golden Rule Member Firm, (724-929-5300), 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, is in charge of arrangements.
