Obituary

Frank Rawlins, 81, of Monessen, was called home to rest on Sunday, May 10, 2009, in Monongahela Valley Hospital surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born Feb. 8, 1928, in Elizabeth, N.J., he was the son of the late Frank and Inez Rawlins. Frank retired with 45 years of service as a laborer and grievance man, having worked at Pages Mill in Monessen. He was a member of Wayman-Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church in Monessen for 65 years and served as a trustee in the church. Frank served aboard the USS North Carolina with the United States Navy and received the World War II Victory Medal. He also was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 79 and a lifetime member of the Elks. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 38 years, Catherine (Nouchy) Rawlins, five daughters, Jennifer (Richard) Frazier, of Monongahela, Kathleen Hatcher-Rawlins and D'Juna Tansmore, both of Pittsburgh, Vicky (Floyd) Kizzie and Deborah (Howard) Reynolds, both of Monessen, two sons, Frank (Debbie) Davis and Arthur (Cynthia Lee) Tansmore, both of Monessen, one brother, Robert Rawlins, of Camarillo, Calif., two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Harvey and Hortense (Teenie) Maddox, both of Monessen, two brothers-in-law, Arthur 'Ricky' Minnie Jr., of Monessen, and Ronald (Janet) Minnie, of Pittsburgh, an extended family member, Phillip Reed, and a very close friend and brother, Jack Bergstein, both of Monessen, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ira Rawlins (Frank's twin), and Vernon Cox, and three sisters, Alberta Holmes, Agnes Rawlins and Audrey Rawlins. Family and friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in Wayman-Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church, 318 McKee Way, Monessen. Additional viewing will be held in the church on Thursday, May 14, from 10 to 11 a.m., the hour of service with Elder Robert C. Holmes officiating and assisted by the Rev. Rhonda Frazier-Higgins. Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the BEVERLY C. DRAPER FUNERAL HOME INC., 608 Sixth St., Monessen (724-684-6242).
