Obituary

Frank Matola, 90, of North Belle Vernon, died Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at 3:10 a.m. in Hallsworth House III, Monessen. He was born Sept. 6, 1912, in Ford City, a son of the late John and Anna Shiskanets Matola. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Obsharsky Matola, on March 16, 1995. Mr. Matola, a long-time resident of the Belle Vernon area, was a member of St. John the Divine Orthodox Church in Monessen and was a Platinum donor to Mon Valley Hospital, where he received the Rose Award for Philanthropy. He was retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corporation in Monessen with 47 years of service in the pipe shop/hydraulic department. Mr. Matola also was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659, the Fairhope Rod & Gun Club, and the NRA. Survivors include three sisters, Irene Rodjom of Donora, and Anna Vasil and Sophie Tyger, both of Hallsworth House, and several nieces and nephews. There will be no public visitation. A prayer service will be held Thursday, July 24, at 10 a.m. in the LEONARD J. PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME, Family Owned and Operated, 626 Board Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-6183, with the Very Rev. John Horosky, pastor, officiating. Entombment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The family suggests contributions be made to the charity of one's choice in memory of Frank Matola.
