Francis "Fritz" Shaffer,86,of Charleroi,died Sunday,Jan.12,1997,in Mon Valley Hospital,Carroll Township. Born July 4,1910,in North Charleroi,he was a son of the late Frank and Catherine Smeltzer Shaffer. He was a member of Mary,Mother of the Church Parish,and the American Legion Club,both of Charleroi. Mr. Shaffer was retired from the former Pittsburgh Steel Company fabric department in Monessen. Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law,William and Joan Shaffer of Charleroi and Robert Shaffer,also of Charleroi;two grandchildren,Dana Rebovich and Dawn Contino;three great-grandchildren,Justin and Craig Rebovich and Chelsea Contino;and one sister,Isabelle Paterline of Ohio. In addition to his parents,he was preceded in death by his wife, Garnet,on Nov. 12,1988;a sister and two brothers. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Carl J. Spallino Funeral home,819 Fallowfield Ave.,Charleroi,where funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Carl J. Spallino Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
