Obituary

Evan W.Thomas,75,of 924 Fayette Ave.,Belle Vernon,died at 5 a.m. Wednesday,March 17,1982,at Mease Hospital and Clinic in Dunedin,Fla. He was 75. Mr.Thomas had been wintering in Florida since November. Born in Scranton April 2,1906,Mr.Thomas lived in Belle Vernon for most of his life. An employee of the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel since age 15,at his retirement 11 years ago,Mr.Thomas was supervisor of the Mechanical Maintenance Dept.there. He was a master mechanic by trade. A member of the United Methodist Church of Belle Vernon,he also was a past master of the F&AM Lodge 643 of Belle Vernon and a member of the Syria Temple Shrine of Pittsburgh and Mon Valley Caravan No.17. Survivors include his widow Mary Stanger Thomas,a son,E.Richard Thomas of Greensburg,and three half-sisters and one half-brother. Friends will be received at the Rhome Funeral Home Inc.,1209 Grand Blvd.,Monessen,Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Masonic services will be held at the funeral home Friday at 7:30 p.m. Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home,with the Rev.William D.Morgan,pastor,Wesleyan United Methodist Church,Connellsville,officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Rhome Funeral Home,Inc.,is in charge of arrangements.
