Obituary

Ethel Pearl Barnes,78,of 418 Ridge Ave.,Monessen,died Sunday,Dec.10,1978,at 4:15 p.m. in Mon Valley Hospital. She had been in declining health. Mrs.Barnes was born May 6,1900 in Bedford County,the daughter of the late Amos and Margaret Smith Wigfield and had lived in Monessen for the past 61 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Monessen. Survivors include her husband,Aquilla Barnes,one daughter,Mrs.Chester (Gladys) Lear of Monessen,three sons,Glenn Barnes of Fairhope,Wayne Barnes of Monessen and the Rev.Edward G.Barnes,pastor of the First Christian Church of Burlington,Colo.,16 grandchildren,10 great-grandchildren,four sisters,Mrs.Zella Riley in the state of Indiana,Mrs.Sylvia Barnes of Bedford County,Mrs.Hazel Charles of Monessen and Mrs.Moneda Smith of Arlington,Va.,one brother,Edgar Wigfield of Everett,Pa.,and two half-brothers,Blair and Allen Wigfield,both of Bedford County. Friends will be received in the Rhome Funeral Home Inc.,1209 Grand Blvd.,Monessen,from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Services will be held in the funeral home chapel Wednesday at 11 a.m.,with the Rev.Richard R.Giddens III,pastor of the First Christian Church of Monessen,officiating. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Monessen Meals on Wheels program or the Monessen Ambulance Service. Rhome funeral directors are in charge.
