Funeral services for Ellsworty Ream,57,prominet Belle Vernon citizen who shot and killed himself with a .22 rifle on Tuesday,January 9,1940,will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the family residence at 12 Main street,Belle Vernon. The Rev. G. Meade Dougherty,pastor of the Belle Vernon Methodist Church,will officiate at the services,and burial will be made in the Belle Vernon Cemetery. He was manager of the Belle Vernon Water Co.and active in numerous civic and fraternal affairs in the borough,which had been his home for about 35 years. He enjoyed robust health and had the reputation of being extremely active. He apparently had no business worries,and his family life has been ideal. A charter member of the Belle Vernon Rotary Club,Mr. Ream served as the club's president in 1938,but resigned his membership soon after relinquishing the presidency. He was a member of the Belle Vernon Fire Department and for more thatn 30 years has been an active member of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics. He was also a director of the Belle Vernon Musical Society and a charter member of the Belle Vernon Drama League. He had served several years as a justice of the peace. Mr. Ream has been associated with the water comany in various capacities for the past 14 years,and had made his home in Belle Vernon for about 35 years. Every civic project in the little borough found him in the front rank of workers. Mr. Ream is survived by his wife,who was prostrated by the tragedy,a daughter, Mrs. Milton Beatty,of Monessen,and two sons,Harold of Stockdale and Henry of Belle Vernon. Charles L.
