Obituary

A former veteran public school teacher in the Belle Vernon area, Elizabeth Roley, died Wednesday morning,April 30,1980 at 11:45 in the Methodist Home, Mt. Lebanon, at the age of 95. She was born in Belle Vernon, June 14,1884, daughter of the late Sutton and Elizabeth Jane Wilson Roley. Miss Roley graduated from what is now California State College in 1902 and taught school in North Belle Vernon and Rostraver public schools for many years. She retired from teaching in 1946. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Belle Vernon, having served on the church's official board for 20 years. A Sunday School teacher for 42 years, she was a former chairman of the church's Hospital and Home Committee and was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Martha Circle of the church. She was also a past president and an honorary member of the Belle Vernon Women's Club. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, both former North Belle Vernon business men, Louis and Van Roley. Surviving are two nephews, Sutton of Pasadena, Calif., and Jack Roley, of Belle Vernon; one niece, Mrs. Ralph (Jane) Ryan of Sarasota, Fla. Friends are being received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Shelby D. Ferguson Funeral Home, 700 Broad Ave., North Belle Vernon. Services will be held tomorrow (Friday) in the funeral home at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William G. Morris, pastor of the Mifflin Avenue Methodist Church of Wilkinsburg and the Rev. Lee Dinsel, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Belle Vernon, officiating. Burial will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
