Elizabeth Marie Vivian; 92; of Monessen; died Tuesday; May 30; 2006; in the Harmon House; Mt. Pleasant. She was born in Monessen on Nov. 27; 1913; the daughter of the late Nazzareno and Carolina Paggini Parigi. She was a life long resident of Monessen; a 1933 graduate of Monessen High School; a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church and the former St. Cajetan R.C. Church; where she was active in the Rosary Altar Society and Christian Mothers. She was also a member of the former NIPA Ladies Auxiliary; Greater Monessen Historical Society; and the former Quota Club of Monessen; where she organized several heart and cancer drives. She attended the Monessen Senior Center regularly; having enjoyed playing bridge and other card games. Mrs. Vivian was a beautician; having owned and operated two beauty salons in Monessen; Elizabeth’s; which later became Elma’s; and Madeline’s; having moved the salon from Schoonmaker Avenue into her home. She then later worked as office manager for her late son at Mar Electric for ten years. Mrs. Vivian co-authored with her daughter the book Immigrant’s Kitchen: Italian; and is the subject of the recently published book The Overseer’s Family: A Memoir of the Tuscan Countryside. She is survived by her daughter; Cassandra Vivian; of Monessen; four grandchildren; Kathleen Vivian and companion Steve Merl; of East Pittsburgh; Thomas Vivian; Michael Vivian and wife Terri; and Kristin Vivian; all of Mt. Pleasant; nine great-grandchildren; Patricia Ann Spinneweber and husband Eric; Michael Karbowsky Jr.; Michael and Joseph Vivian; Roger Strautmann; Thomas Vivian Jr.; Alan Michael Vivian; Jessica Strautmann; and Lyndsie Vivian; all of Mt. Pleasant; two great-great-grandchildren; Paul and John Spinneweber; and by nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband; Alfred A. Vivian; in 1967; and by her son; Alfred Bebe Vivian; in 1989. Friends will be received on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the DALFONSO-BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC.; 441 Reed Ave.; Monessen (724-684-8750). Services will be held on Friday; June 2; beginning with 9:30 a.m. Blessing in the funeral home; followed by a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord R.C. Church.
