Obituary

Mrs. Elizabeth M. Phillips,58,of Daisytwn R.D.1,was dead on arrival at Charleroi-Monessen Hospital at 9:15 a.m.,Tuesday Feb. 22,1966,after a traffic accident.Mrs. Phillips was trying to halt a drifting pickup truck in the driveway of her home.  State Police at Belle Vernon said her husband Charles' vehicle,its motor running and its brakes apparently on,started to drift backwards and she tried to jump in to stop it. Police said she was caught by the moving machine,pinned against a fence post and dragged under the vehicle. The Phillips' seven-year-old grandson,Gary Parola,was in the truck at the time of the mishap.  The youth,who makes his home with his grandparents,did not require hospital treatment. Mrs. Phillips was born April 1,1907,at Fayette City,a daughter of Perry and Mary Hoag Metz.  She was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband,Charlie Phillips;five daughters,Virginia,wife of Floyd Shaw Jr.,of Bentleyville;Pat,wife of John Parola and Polly,wife of Charles Teagarden,both of Clover Hill;Martha,wife of Earl Lippencott, of West Brownsville,and Jackie,wife of James Timko,of Cleveland,Ohio; two sons, Richard and Charles,both of Cleveland;her father,Perry Metz,of West Brownsville;four sisters, Sarah,wife of Sam North,of West Brownsville;Gladys,wife of Paul Labenne,of Clarksburg,W.Va.;Helen,wife of Edward Kennedy,of Daisytown R.D.,and May,wife of Leon Mayuer,of Indiana State;20 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Friends will be received at the Greenlee Funeral Home at 619 Main St.,Bentleyville from 7 to 10 p.m. Feb.23 and 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 Feb.24. Service there Friday,Feb. 25,at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Howard Pierce,pastor of Oak Grove Baptist Church,officiating.  Interment,Belle Vernon Cemetery.  Greenlee Funeral Home in charge.
