E.L. Cunningham died Tuesday night,May 28,1918 at 6 o'clock at his Orchard Place residence near North Belle Vernon. Mr.Cunningham had been an invalid for several years,having suffered a stroke of paralysis from which he never fully recovered and which left him speechless and with one side wholly paralyzed. But he was able to sit up and be moved about the house. Saturday he was taken ill with what proved to be his last sickness and he was confined to his bed until his death. Deceased was 70 years of age. Mr. Cunningham,until a few years ago,was an active figure. For a number of years he was a resident of Monessen,where he was engaged in the hotel business. He was proprietor of the Monongahela House for about seven years and his place of business was always popular with the travelng public. When his health began to fail he retired and built a country home, where with his family he resided the remainder of his days. A widow and one child survive. Deceased was a Civil war veteran,a member of the 28th and 57th regiments,serving under Capt, E. E.Strouss, a 32d degree Mason and a life member of the Shrine. He was a staunch Republican all his life, and a very close friend of the late Matthew Stanley Quay, the great state leader, and he served in state and national conventions when Senator Quay's political career was at its zenith. Funeral services will be held from the late home on Thursday, May 30, at 10:30 a. m. Interment Belle Vernon Cemetery.
