Obituary

Mrs. Effie Burleigh,aged 67 years,662 McMahon avenue,Monessen,died Saturday afternoon,,Nov. 24,1956 at 5:25 p.m. in Charleroi-Monessen Hospital from burns received when her clothes caught fire as she was cooking breakfast at her home. Mrs. Burleigh was reaching over a lighted gas stove about 10:30 a.m. when her clothes caught fire.  Apparently frightened,she raced out of the house onto the street with her clothes ablaze. Neighbors heard her screams nd came to her aid.  She was rushed to the hosptal where she died of second and third degree burns about the face and body at 5:25 p.m. She is survived by a step-daughter,Mrs. Beatrice Macer,of Monessen and two step-sons,Clarence Burleigh of Monessen and Capt. Elmer Burleigh,stationed with the U.S.Army in Turkey. Mrs. Burleigh was a member of the Wayman A.M.E. Church of Monessen and also a member of the Senior Missionary Society. Friends are being received at the Carter Funeral Home,McMahon avenue,Monessen,where visiting hours are from 1 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock from the Wayman Church with the Rev. Isaac Louden officiating,assisted by the Rev. Bryan,of Altoona.  Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. DuBoise H. Carter,funeral director.
