Obituary

Edwin T. Latchem Sr., 72, of Washington Township, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born in North Charleroi on Jan. 10, 1936, a son of the late Willard and Harriet (McMurray) Latchem. Ed grew up in Charleroi and was a 1953 graduate of Charleroi High School. He received his bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from Penn State University. Mr. Latchem was a P.E. Civil Engineer, having retired from PennDOT in May 2007. He had worked in the same capacity for numerous construction companies over the years. Mr. Latchem was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Washington Township Planning Commission since 2001, and an alumnus of Theta Chi Fraternity at Penn State University. Ed served his country from 1957 to 1959 as a member of the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Judy (Zimmaro) Latchem, three sons, Edwin T. Latchem Jr., of Greensburg, Stephen Latchem, of Austin, Texas, and Mark Krusec, of Silver Spring, Md., his daughter and son-in-law, Carol and James Bischoff, of Newark, Del., a brother, Floyd Latchem, of Uniontown, four grandchildren, Derek, Maxwell, Isabella and Alexander, and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. in the DALFONSO-BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC. and CREMATION SERVICES, 441 Reed Ave., Monessen (724-684-8750). Services will be held Monday, Dec. 1, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Suzanne Currie of First Presbyterian Church in Belle Vernon officiating.
