Edward O. Sims,78,of 309 First St.,Belle Vernon,died at his home,Tuesday,Aug. 1,1989,at 11 a.m. He was born in North Charleroi,Nov. 1,1910,a son of the late Thomas E. and Lavina Cocain Sims. Mr. Sims was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Belle Vernon,and a former member of the Toastmasters and Washington Township Lions Club. He had lived in Belle Vernon for the past 48 years and was formerly of Charleroi and Monessen. He retired in 1975 from the Monessen Southwestern Railroad of the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Company,where he was a conductor. Mr. Sims is survived by his wife, Bertha Miller Sims;one son,Thomas and his wife Louise Sims of Charleroi R.D.2;three grandchildren,Mark C. Sims and Karen Williams,both of Killeen,Texas,and Barbara Beden of Madisonburg,Pa.;and three great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Ferguson Funeral Home,700 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon,after 7 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be held from the funeral home,Saturday at 1 p.m. with Dr. Thomas St. Clair of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in the Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Ferguson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
