Edward L.(Ozzie) Smith;48; of 14 Woodcrest Drive;Monessen;died Friday;Jan.10;1969;at 8:55 a.m.in the Charleroi-Monessen Hospital after a long illness. He was born in Monessen;the son of the late William and Jean (Ferguson) Smith. Mr.Smith was employed in the blooming mill of the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp.;Monessen plant. He was a veteran of World War II. An Air Force gunner;he was a prisoner of war for 27 months after his B-17 Fortress was shot down in a mission over Germany. He was a member of the former United Presbyterian Church of Monessen;and the B.P.O. Elks 773;and American Legion Post 28 of Monessen. Preceding him in death was his son Gary C.Booth;December;1963. Survivors include his widow;Freida (Fresh) Smith;two daughters;Mrs.Kenneth (Kay) Betler of Charleoi and Mrs.Mary Booth of Monessen;three grandchildren;two sisters;Mrs.Andrew (Jean) Dyky of Monessen and Mrs.Keith (Ruth) Moeller of Charleroi;R.D.;two brothers;Ray and Robert of Monessen. Friends will be received at the H.Denver Rhome Funeral Home;Monessen;after 7 p.m.;Jan.11. Funeral services will be held Monday;Jan.13;at 1:30 p.m.from the funeral home;with the Rev.Glen Burrows;pastor of First Presbyterian Church;Monessen;officiating. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. H.Denver Rhome;funeral director.
