Edward L.Smith;80;of 131 Southgate Drive;Juniper;Fla.;died Sunday;March 11;1973;in St.Mary’s Hospital;West Palm Beach;Fla. He was a former Monessen resident. Mr.Smith was a retired superintendent of the bloomng mill of Monessen Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. and was a veteran of World War I;having served with the Rainbow Division. He moved to Florida in 1960. He was a member of St.Jude’s R.C.Church and the Elks Lodge;both of Jupiter;Fla.;Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8182 and Sterling McClellian American Legion Post 142;both of Pompano Beach;Fla. He was preceded in death by his wife;Mrs.Thelma Lochrie Smith;in 1965. Surviving are two daughters;Mrs.Jack (Charlotte) Sonafelt of Monessen and Mrs.John (Nova) Nole of Genova;Neb.;two sons;Lionel E.Smith;with whom he made his home;in Juniper;and Donn Smith of Fisher Heights;Carroll Twp.;18 grandchildren and three great–grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Rhome Funeral Home;Monessen from 7 to 9 p.m.Tuesday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.Wednesday. Services will be held in the chapel of the funeral home at 1 p.m.Thursday with the Rev.Joseph Laboon;pastor of St.Charles Church;Donora;in charge.
