Obituary

Edward H. Barton,71,died Saturday,June 18,1949,at 12:10 p.m. at his home, 630 McMahon avenue,after being ill since March 22. He has been a resident of Monessen for 35 years coming here from Washington,D.C.,where he was born February 14,1878. His wife,the former Philomena Clark,died on June 9,1923.  She was the mother of nine children,six being born in Monessen.The Bartons have been members of St. Leonard's R.C.Church since their arrival here in 1914.  Prior to coming here they were members of St. Augustine's R.C.Church in Washington. Mr. Barton has spent 34 years in continuous service as an employee of the Pittsburgh Steel Co. Surviving are his mother,Mrs. Sarah E. Butler of Bowie,Md.;five sons,Clark and Joseph of Monessen,Norman of Evanston,Ill.,Thomas of Boston,Mass.and William of Brooklyn,N.Y.;four daughters,Mrs. Eleanor Burks of Brooklyn,N.Y.,Mrs. Gertrude Turner of Bowie,Md., Mrs. Mary Banks,of Monessen and Mrs. Lillian Cook of Bowie,Md.; six grandchildren;a sister,Mrs. Irene Ferrell of Bowie,Md.; three brothers,Richard and James,of Bowie,Md.,and Joseph of Evanston, Ill. Friends will be received at the home after 5 p.m. on Monday. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning June 22 at 9 o'clock from St. Leonard's Church with Father Owen J. Kirby officiating.  Interment in Belle Vernon Cemetery.  Francis A. Keith,McKeesport,funeral director.
