Edward Downing;67;of 3200 Thirty-Fourth Avenue North;St.Petersburg;Florida;formerly of Monessen;died Monday May 14;1956;at 6 p.m.in St.Anthony’s Hospital;St.Petersburg. He was born in Penzance;England;and had been a resident of Monessen since 1907;where he resided with a niece;Miss Marjorie Harvey. He was employed as foreman of the Central Stream plant of the Monessen mill of Pittsburgh Steel Company;and retired two years ago;at which time he moved to Florida. He was a veteran of World War One;the Thomas McKee Post;American Legion;and the F.and A.M.Lodge 638. He also belonged to the Royal Arch Chapter;290;the McKean Commandery;and the Egypt Temple Shrine of Tampa;Florida. Friends will be received at the Rhome Funeral Home;McKee avenue;Monessen during hours of 1 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. Services will be held there Saturday May 19;1956;at 2 p.m.;in charge of Rev.Arthur P.Richard and interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Friends are asked to omit flowers;but instead to donate to the Monessen Public Library for a shelf of books in Mr.Downing’s memory. H.Denver Rhome is the funeral director.
