Obituary

Edith L.Laird,formerly of Speer St.,Belle Vernon,died yesterday at 6:15 p.m. in the Waddington Nursing Home. She was 90. Mrs.Laird was born March 27,1891 in Smithton,a daughter of the late Charles and Gertrude Unger Stemberg. A member of the First Presbyterian Church of Belle Vernon,Mrs. Laird came to Belle Vernon in 1935. She was a former member for many years of the Belle Vernon Women's Club. Mrs.Laird was preceded in death by her husband,Andrew G.Laird in June of 1975,and a daughter,Ruth A. Ferguson on July 17,1976. Survivors include one son,Col.Paul G.Laird,U.A.Army retired of Trieste,Italy,two daughters,Mrs.James (Bernadean) Vance and Mrs. Maynard (Vivian) Jesick,both of Belle Vernon,one brother,James Stemberg of California,Pa,eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received in the Shelby D.Ferguson Funeral Home,700 Broad Ave.Belle Vernon,today from 7 to 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held on Saturday,March 6 at 11 a.m. with the Rev.Charles LaPlaca,pastor of the First Presbyterian Church,Belle Vernon,officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Shelby D.Ferguson,funeral director,is in charge of arrangements.
