Obituary

Edgar Jacobs Corwin, 87, of 622 Speer street, Belle Vernon, died at his home, January 2, 1955, at 1:05 a. m., following a lingering illness. Mr. Corwin, who was a pioneer resident of Belle Vernon, was born there May 14, 1867. He was owner and proprietor of one of the town's first bakeries, located on Main street, and retired a number of years ago as assistant freight agent of the town. He was a charter member of the First Baptist Church, and was one of its most ardent workers before his failing health a number of years ago. For over fifty years,he served the congregtion as Moderator,and was also a member of the official board in the capacity of Deacon.  In addition to his active church affiliation,he was a member of Belle Vernon lodge,632,F and A M,and the Odd Fellows lodge of Belle Vernon.  On November 22,1954,Mr.and Mrs.Corwin observed their Sixty Seventh Wedding Anniversary,the day marked by a family gathering.  He is survived by his wife,Aramintha Corwin,two sons,Fred Wesley of Donora,Austin M.,of Belle Vernon,one daughter,Mrs. Hugh (Ruby) Prichard of Belle Vernon,eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.  Friends will be received at the Melenyzer-Ferguson Funeral Home,during visiting hours of 1 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m.  Services will be held there Wednesday,January 5,1955,at 2 p.m.,and interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.  Chas. L. Melenyzer and Shelby D. Ferguson are the funeral directors.
