Obituary

Dr.E.C.Phillips,a practicing dentist in Belle Vernon for 58 years,died at his home at 420 Fayette St.,Belle Vernon,Wednesday,Feb.8,1961,at 3:30 a.m.,following a brief illness. Dr.Phillips was born in Flatwoods,and started his practice of dentistry in Belle Vernon in 1901,following his graduation from the Dental School of Western University of Pennsylvania,now the University of Pittsburgh. He retired in 1950. Before becoming a dentist,he taught in Belle Vernon district schools,having also been graduated from California Normal School. He was a member of St.Omega Fraternity. He was a member of the First Methodist Church of Belle Vernon,and in addition to serving on the official board,and being a trustee,was a member for many years of the church choir. He was a charter member of the Belle Vernon Library Association,and for 19 years,served on the North Belle Vernon School Board. He is survived by his widow,Mrs.Harriet C.Phillips,one daughter,Mrs.Ann Loesel at home,one brother,Harry Phillips of Pittsburgh,one sister,Mrs.Ray Paxton,Charleroi,and one grandson,John Loesel. Friends will be received at the Ferguson Funeral Home,Belle Vernon,after 7 o'clock tonight,during hours of 1 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. Services will be held there Friday Feb.10,1961,at 2 p.m.,in charge of the Rev.William Schalz. Interment,Belle Vernon Cemetery. Please omit flowers. Any memorial may be given to Belle Vernon Library. Shelby D.Ferguson is the funeral director.
