Dr.E.C.Phillips;a practicing dentist in Belle Vernon for 58 years;died at his home at 420 Fayette St.;Belle Vernon;Wednesday;Feb.8;1961;at 3:30 a.m.;following a brief illness. Dr.Phillips was born in Flatwoods;and started his practice of dentistry in Belle Vernon in 1901;following his graduation from the Dental School of Western University of Pennsylvania;now the University of Pittsburgh. He retired in 1950. Before becoming a dentist;he taught in Belle Vernon district schools;having also been graduated from California Normal School. He was a member of St.Omega Fraternity. He was a member of the First Methodist Church of Belle Vernon;and in addition to serving on the official board;and being a trustee;was a member for many years of the church choir. He was a charter member of the Belle Vernon Library Association;and for 19 years;served on the North Belle Vernon School Board. He is survived by his widow;Mrs.Harriet C.Phillips;one daughter;Mrs.Ann Loesel at home;one brother;Harry Phillips of Pittsburgh;one sister;Mrs.Ray Paxton;Charleroi;and one grandson;John Loesel. Friends will be received at the Ferguson Funeral Home;Belle Vernon;after 7 o’clock tonight;during hours of 1 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. Services will be held there Friday Feb.10;1961;at 2 p.m.;in charge of the Rev.William Schalz.
